The Attorney General of Mexico (Spanish: Procuraduría General de la República) is the head of the Attorney General's Office, an institution belonging to the Federal executive branch that is responsible of the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes. The office is governed mainly by the Constitution of Mexico and the Organic Law of the Attorney General's Office.[1] The Attorney General is a member of the President's Cabinet. The current[update] Attorney General is Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza.
The Attorney General's Office is organized into several subordinate entites, including the Federal Investigations Agency, the Federal Preventive Police, the Special Prosecutor's Office for Crimes Against Health,[2] the National Institute for Combating Drugs (INCD),[2][3][4] the Center for Drug Control Planning (CENDRO),[2] and the General Direction of Expert Services.
